VLA-1 mAb

The VLA-1 integrin is critical for the function of a number of pathogenic cell types including the macrophage, which is responsible for the initiation and maintenance of chronic inflammation, and the myofibroblast, which is responsible for the deposition of scar tissue or fibrosis. Biogen discovered the biology underlying the VLA-1 pathway in collaboration with academic investigators and is developing a humanized monoclonal antibody for potential use in clinical indications where inflammation and fibrosis play a substantial role such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus nephritis and cirrhosis.
