Biogen’s research is closely integrated with its commercial strengths, providing for a concentration on developing products in three therapeutic areas Neurology, Dermatology and Rheumatology. These are fields where the company is uniquely positioned to leverage its expertise in biological science to discover and develop products with high commercial potential and in areas of high unmet need.
Biogen’s attention to R&D has helped fuel a promising pipeline of potential therapies that could improve the quality of people’s lives.
Some Research Projects in the Pipeline:
Nogo
Inhibitors of the Nogo pathway may have therapeutic applications in multiple neurological conditions. The Nogo receptor is a newly identified molecule that is a critical inhibitor to the lack of nerve regeneration after central nervous system injury. Blocking the Nogo receptor could help reverse damage caused by spinal cord injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis and even Alzheimer’s disease.
BAFF Inhibitor
The BAFF pathway is critical for the maturation and survival of B cells, and has therapeutic implications for B-cell mediated autoimmune diseases, such as Lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.
